B.C. school districts post strike plans

During the B.C. teachers strike on March 5, 6, and 7, each school district will be making its own plans for students. Here is a list of information published online on Friday morning.

All schools that plan to remain open advise that there will be no classes and limited supervision of children, and are advising parents to keep their children home or make alternative plans whenever possible. 

Bus service has been cancelled by most districts, but some pre-school and childcare services at some schools are still operating. Please check district websites for more details.

  • SD 5 Southeast Kootenay – school facilities open, but requesting parents keep students at home.
  • SD 6 Rocky Mountain – requesting parents keep students home, no bus service
  • SD 8 Kootenay Lake – students should be kept home, no bus service.
  • SD 10 Arrow Lakes – schools open, but no buses and parents asked to keep students home.
  • SD 19 Revelstoke – requesting parents keep children at home, school facilities will stay open, no bus service.
  • SD 20 Kootenay/Columbia – schools open, but no bus service and requesting parents keep children at home. 
  • SD 22 Vernon – schools open, but no bus service and requesting parents keep children at home.
  • SD 23 Central Okanagan – schools open, no bus service and requesting parents keep children at home.
  • SD 27 Cariboo/Chilcotin – students told not to attend school. Principals and vice principals in school to prepare for return of students, no bus service.
  • SD 28 Quesnel – schools will be closed and no bus service.
  • SD 33 Chilliwack – school facilities open, but closing schools to students.
  • SD 34 Abbotsford – school facilities open, but parents asked to make alternative arrangements.
  • SD 35 Langley – request parents make alternative arrangements. If students report to school, administrators will see to their safety. No bus service.
  • SD 36 Surrey – requesting parents make alternative arrangements, classes cancelled. No bus service.
  • SD 37 Delta – requesting parents make alternative arrangements, no bus service.
  • SD 38 Richmond – schools open for staff, closed for students. Request parents do not send students to school for duration of strike. No bus service.
  • SD 39 Vancouver – requesting parents make alternative arrangements.
  • SD 40 New Westminister – requesting parents make alternative arrangements.
  • SD 41 Burnaby – requesting parents make alternative arrangements. No bus services for students with special needs.
  • SD 42 Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows – school facilities open but requesting parents make alternative arrangements.  No bus service.
  • SD 43 Coquitlam – school facilities open, request parents keep children at home, No bus service.
  • SD 44 North Vancouver – school facilities open, but requesting parents keep children at home or make alternate arrangements.
  • SD 45 West Vancouver – school facilities open, request parents keep children at home, no bus service, but any students that may attend will be cared for appropriately.
  • SD 46 Sunshine Coast – school facilities open, request parents keep children at home.
  • SD 47 Powell River – school facilities open, request parents keep children at home. Elementary school parent-teacher conferences cancelled for Mar. 7.
  • SD 48 Sea to Sky – schools closed for students, administration staff will be on site to deal with any emergent issues. No bus service.
  • SD 49 Central Coast – no information posted.
  • SD 50 Haida Gwaii – facilities open, request parents keep children at home, no bus service.
  • SD 51 Boundary – no classes, buses will not run and parents need to keep their children home.
  • SD 52 Prince Rupert – school facilities open, request parents keep children at home.
  • SD 53 Okanagan Similkameen – school facilities open, request parents keep children at home, no bus service.
  • SD 54 Bulkley Valley – request parents keep children at home, no bus service.
  • SD 57 Prince George – school facilities open. Students should not attend school but any that do will be given access to warm, secure room while principals make contact with parents/guardians to get students home. Requesting parents keep children at home. No bus service.

  • SD 59 Peace River South – students will not attend school, administration staff will be at school to prepare for return of students. No bus service.
  • SD 60 Peace River North – parents asked not to drop off students at school during job action. No bus service.
  • SD 61 Greater Victoria – schools remain open, administration staff will be in attendance but request parents make alternative arrangements.

  • SD 63 Saanich – professional development day Mar 5. On Mar 6 and 7 school facilities open to look after children who show up. Administration staff will be in attendance but request parents make alternative arrangements. Grade 12 students invited to attend school on March 6 and 7 for supervised self-directed studies.

  • SD 67 Okanagan Skaha – school facilities open, recommending parents keep children at home.
