Police on scene for shooting in 'very safe' Burnaby neighbourhood
RCMP call shooting 'an isolated incident'
Police are investigating a shooting in a residential Burnaby neighbourhood.
Burnaby RCMP said in a statement officers were called to the 5200 block of Smith Avenue for reports of a shooting just before 4 a.m. PT Wednesday.
No one was injured, police said, but a home was hit by bullets.
They are calling the shooting "an isolated incident" and say there is no sign the public is at risk.
Neighbour Peter Neufeld said he heard five or six "bang-bang-bang-bang" sounds early in the morning — but he thought they were fireworks.
"This is the first thing like this that's happened," Neufeld said, explaining the area is not a dangerous one.
Burnaby RCMP Const. Charles Chan agreed, calling the neighbourhood "very safe."
"We take this extremely seriously," Chan said. "All of our resources and units have been engaged in this investigation."
