Can miso fries bridge Vancouver's cyclist-pedestrian divide?
Strathcona resident Ed McCurdy wanted to quell the growing tension between pedestrians and cyclists. So he got a neighbourhood grant, bought a deep fat fryer, and started cooking miso fries.
With cyclist-pedestrian conflicts on the rise, one Vancouver man looks for peace in a deep fat fryer
What does a deep fat fryer have to do with cycling safety? Not much, unless your name is Ed McCurdy.
The Vancouver man noticed the growing volume of bike traffic through his Strathcona neighbourhood was making it increasingly unsafe for pedestrians, especially near the intersection of Union Street and Hawks Avenue.
Concern turned to action after a friend was mowed down by a cyclist.
His solution? A novel, one-day initiative called "I Brake for Miso Fries."
