CBC Vancouver's supper-hour news program won big at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards on May 28.

The show was awarded best local newscast as part of Canadian Screen Week, in which Canada's film, television and digital sectors are celebrated for their work.

News at 6 host Anita Bathe accepted the award on behalf of the team on Tuesday.

"I'm so proud of how hard our team works every single day to put our show together," she said. "We are a small but mighty group and I couldn't ask for more talented colleagues."

"We truly value the importance of giving a voice to communities across the province. Local news matters, period."

Bathe won best news anchor, local in both 2022 and 2023.

Producer Matthew McFarlane said the award is a win not just for the show, but for the entire province.

"It's the diversity of the team and this newsroom that I'm so proud of — and that reflects in the types of stories we tell, and the voices we put to air each day," he said.

"It's not just a show win, it's win for the entire CBC BC team and all the pockets of this province we cover."

CBC's News division was nominated in 22 categories on Tuesday night. It is nominated in several other categories that will be announced later in the week.

The hour-long Canadian Screen Awards gala, hosted by Mae Martin, will be available to watch on CBC TV and CBC Gem on Friday, May 31 at 8 p.m. ET.

CBC British Columbia photographer Ben Nelms also recently won first place for photo of the year, picture story: news and spot news at the News Photographers Association of Canada's National Pictures of the Year competition.
