Chetwynd, B.C., builds new clinic — but has no doctors
All 4 doctors in northern B.C. town will be leaving this summer and no one has signed on to replace them
Officials in Chetwynd, B.C., are hoping a brand new medical clinic will attract new doctors to the area, after all four of the district's physicians made plans to leave this summer.
"We're kind of high and dry right now, we've been working closely with Northern Health to recruit new doctors," District of Chetwynd Coun. Ernest Pfanner told Daybreak North's Carolina de Ryk.
"We have got some interest. Nobody has signed on the dotted line yet."
Pfanner hopes the new building — which will become home to some of the services offered at the existing hospital — will be the clincher in getting those contracts signed.
"It's a big start. It's a beautiful building and it's a new model … that's what young physicians and old physicians are looking for."
For now, Chetwynd will rely on temporary locum doctors to provide medical services.
