The Early Edition explores one teacher's creative way of helping students combat inequality and racism
“The Backpack Project” airs January 11-13 on CBC Radio One
As conversations about racial justice heat up around the globe, a teacher at Eugene Reimer Middle School in Abbotsford is coming up with creative ways to teach her grade 6 class about what it means to be inclusive and anti-racist.
Nerlap Sidhu had her students create an "equity backpack" filled with tools, resources, artwork and personal declarations that tackle topics like equality, anti-racism, inclusion and equity.
Tune in to The Backpack Project and hear from the teacher behind the curriculum and learn what the students are doing to become social justice warriors, airing on CBC Radio One's The Early Edition from Jan. 11-13, with features on CBC Vancouver News at 6 and cbc.ca/bc.
