Beginning June 8, around 7,500 cards will be handed out across the West Coast Express network.

"The delivery of Compass to West Coast Express is a significant milestone because it marks the first time our customers will be able to pay for their fare on the Compass system," said TransLink Interim CEO Doug Allen in a statement.

On June 1, 50,000 students across SFU, UBC, BCIT and Langara will switch over from the U-Pass to the Compass Card system, the authority also announced.

TransLink estimates 220,000 customers will be using the much-delayed cards by September, still far short of the company's 850,000 goal.
