Cooler temperatures and light winds Friday night helped crews in battling a forest fire raging in the District of 100 Mile House in B.C.'s central interior.

Grace Pickell, a spokesperson for the Cariboo Fire Centre, said more than 60 firefighters would be working at the site Saturday reinforcing fire guards to keep the flames from spreading.

As of Saturday afternoon, she said the fire was 100 per cent guarded, meaning firefighters have encircled it with a ditch.

She said due to more accurate mapping, the bush fire at Buffalo Creek on Canim Hendrix Lake Road is estimated to be about 150 hectares.

The fire was initially estimated to cover around 300 hectares.

The blaze broke out Friday night, destroying two structures and driving about a dozen residents from their homes under an evacuation order.

Several more homes to the east of Buffalo Creek were also put under an evacuation alert.
