Coquitlam Mountie facing assault charge

A member of the Coquitlam RCMP is facing with one count of assault, according to the B.C. Prosecution Service.

Sgt. Antonio Guerrero Jr. has been charged in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred at the Coquitlam RCMP detachment Dec.14-15, 2022. The charge was sworn on Dec. 14, 2023.

Guerrero first court appearance has been scheduled for Jan. 17, 2024 in Port Coquitlam Provincial Court.

According to the release, Crown Counsel who approved the charge is "experienced," with no prior or current connection to the officer. 

"As this matter is now before the court the BCPS will not be releasing additional information or commenting further at this time," said the BCPS in a release.
