Couple at North Vancouver seniors home die of COVID-19
The pair were isolating in their suite when they passed away Tuesday morning at the Amica Edgemont Village
A wife and husband living at the Amica Edgemont Village seniors care home in North Vancouver died of COVID-19 on Tuesday, according to the facility's general manager.
In a letter to residents, Brian Browne said the couple passed away after earlier testing positive tests for coronavirus.
"The residents were a couple who lived in the same suite, and had been isolated there since showing symptoms," said Browne.
A company spokesperson confirmed the pair were both in their 90s.
Browne's letter goes on to say that a staff member tested positive for COVID-19 on April 5 after showing symptoms a day earlier. That person has been recovering at home with pay, according to Browne.
He said management is working to find out which other workers were in contact with the sick staffer so they can be sent for testing.
"Residents remain isolated in their rooms, and we continue to minimize the number of team members they come into contact with," he said.
"It is a sad day at our residence. These residents were well-known and integral members of our community, they will be greatly missed."
According to the company website, Amica operates homes in B.C., Alberta and Ontario and is Canadian owned.
