Digital health database delays costing millions, says B.C. NDP

Delays to the introduction of a digital health database could cost B.C. millions of dollars and the project has "essentially been put on hold", says health critic Judy Darcy.

Database was scheduled to go live in September 2015

Delays to the introduction of a digital health database could cost B.C. $72 million a year, according to Judy Darcy, B.C. NDP health critic, who says, "the project has essentially been put on hold".

Designed to store all Lower Mainland health records online, the $842 million government project has stalled, Darcy says, because the suggested programs were rejected by health authorities.

The site was expected to be live by September 1 of this year.

Health Minister Terry Lake would not say how much the delay may cost.

"This is a complex and very large project that will encounter challenges along the way, like all of these transformative projects," he said during question period.
