Two men are dead after a double stabbing at a Vancouver Single Room Occupancy (SRO) hotel Saturday night.

Vancouver Police were called to the West Hotel, at 488 Carrall St. just before 9:00 p.m., PT. When they arrived, officers found a man who had been stabbed. He died in the hotel.

Police said residents directed them to a second stabbing victim in the building. He was rushed to hospital, but couldn't be saved.

The Vancouver Police Major Crime Section is investigating both deaths.

Complaints about the hotel

The hotel has become a dangerous place for its vulnerable residents, according to community organizer Wendy Pedersen.

Pedersen said it lacks proper security, and people who aren't residents have been freely coming and going to sell drugs.

On March 10, a person was seriously hurt in another attack in the hotel, said Pedersen.

"These people deserve safety. The people that live in this hotel are in danger, and clearly tonight is the result of the lack of investment in these SROs."

Pedersen said residents plan to gather to speak to media about their concerns, Sunday at 10:00 a.m., PT.
