Maze Runner star Dylan O'Brien is "one tough cookie," said director Wes Ball of the actor who was injured on set while filming near Kamloops, B.C. last week.

Ball tweeted that the actor is expected to be back shooting after a few weeks of rest and recovery.

Hollywood trade publication Variety and celebrity website TMZ said O'Brien was hit by a car and suffered multiple injuries on the set of the upcoming Maze Runner: The Death Cure. He was taken to a Vancouver hospital for treatment.

"It's a scary thing seeing your friend get hurt, but fortunately Dylan is going to be just fine," Ball said on Twitter.

"I'm sorry for the grief this accident caused his friends and family as well as my wonderful cast and crew."

James Dashner, the author of the series from which the films are adapted, also tweeted that O'Brien was going to be OK.

Movie studio 20th Century Fox declined to comment on the severity of O'Brien's injuries or how they occurred, but WorkSafeBC is investigating the incident.

The workplace safety agency sent an investigator to Cache Creek airport, where the film was shooting.
