Vancouver music lover Rod Matheson is about to complete his Every Day Music project — recording a new band performing a new song every day for 1,000 days.

Since Matheson started the ambitious video project, he's recorded in kitchens, stairwells, dressing rooms, as well as stages.

With his own camera he's captured big names like Kenny Rogers and Alicia Key, but his focus has been on independent artists like John Mann and Serena Ryder.

Matheson said he started the project after feeling he was spending too much time just staring at a computer screen.

"I just wanted to get out and do something," he told Stephen Quinn for CBC Radio's On The Coast.

To complete the project, he saw 10 to 20 bands a week, going from venue to venue on his electric scooter — and created a YouTube channel called EveryDayMusicTV to feature his videos.

Matheson finishes his project at the end of December and says the personal odyssey has taught him the importance of music.

"I've learned that music has been my best medicine," he said.
