Extreme road rage incident leads to shots in Richmond
Police say a handgun was used in driving altercation that turned violent
Police say they're concerned about a road rage incident that turned violent Monday night when someone in a car shot at another vehicle.
RCMP Corp. Dennis Hwang said a driving altercation prompted the shooting and that police believe a handgun was used.
"At this point, we believe the shooting was initiated by a driving altercation and it appears to have been taken to the extreme," Hwang said.
The incident took place in the area of Westminster Highway and Garden City Road around 8:30 p.m. PT.
At least one bullet pierced a white Toyota Corolla which was driven by a 22-year-old Richmond, B.C. man. The driver was not hurt, said police.
Police say the suspect who fired on the vehicle was driving a dark-coloured four-door car.
He was seen speeding off, heading north on Garden City Road. Police don't have a description of the suspect.
Area residents say they are surprised by the level of violence although say road rage incidents are becoming more frequent.
"You wouldn't think regular citizens would go to that extent ... there's a lot of aggressive driving, but it's definitely over the top," said Naomi Harrison.
