85-year-old pedestrian dies after being hit in Tsawwassen crosswalk

A senior struck while walking in a marked crosswalk in Tsawwassen B.C.has died from her injuries.

'Heavy rain, darkness and lack of visibility,' played a role in accident that claimed life of senior

A senior struck while walking in a marked crosswalk in Tsawwassen B.C.on Saturday Dec. 12 has died from her injuries.

Delta Police said the 85-year-old woman was crossing the road when a vehicle turning left hit her.

The woman was struck at 4:25 p.m. PT when conditions were dark and rainy.

"Although the incident remains under investigation, heavy rain, darkness and lack of visibility of the pedestrian are believed to be factors in the collision," said a Delta Police press release.

The woman was using a crosswalk in the 1200 block of 56th Street when she was hit by a car making a left turn onto 56th Street, police said.

"Drivers are reminded to always check crosswalks several times before entering intersections, especially when turning," the release said.

"Use full headlights in inclement weather, slow down, and avoid distractions. Pedestrians should always choose bright clothing and lights – even in daylight – and make eye contact with drivers before entering the roadway. "
