Kelowna RCMP arrest 26-year-old man connected to fatal stabbing

Kelowna RCMP discovered a unresponsive man who they say had lost a significant amount of blood on Gerstmar Road Friday night.

Police in Kelowna are investigating after a 26-year-old man was fatally stabbed on Gerstmar Road. (CBC)

One man is dead and a 26-year-old suspect is in custody after a fatal stabbing late Friday night in the Rutland neighbourhood of Kelowna.

Kelowna RCMP says officers responded to a 911 call from the 100 block of Gerstmar Road around 9:45 p.m. PT on Friday and then discovered "an unresponsive man appearing to have lost a significant amount of blood," according to a release.

The victim, a 26-year-old Kelowna man, was rushed by paramedics to hospital in critical condition.

"Sadly the victim succumbed to his injuries," said the release.

Police arrested the suspect a short distance from the crime scene. Police say he is a 26-year-old Kelowna man known to them. He remains in custody.

The Kelowna RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation while officers say they believe the two men knew each other.
