Five people were injured after a five-vehicle crash on Highway 1 in Burnaby, B.C., on Tuesday morning, police say.
Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said two of the injured were taken to hospital in serious condition after the crash, which happened just east of the Kensington Avenue off-ramp at about 3 a.m. PT.
Kalanj said police shut down westbound lanes of the highway between Gaglardi Way and Sprott Street. The highway has since fully reopened, DriveBC reported shortly after 12:30 p.m.
Early Tuesday, police advised morning commuters to work from home or delay the start to their work day, if possible, so they could avoid the traffic that piled onto alternative routes to avoid the highway.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor in the crash.
