Suspect arrested, charged in 2018 killing of Granville Street nightclub promoter
A 28-year-old New Westminster man has been charged with 2nd-degree murder

Over seven years since the killing of a Granville Street nightclub promoter, Vancouver police say a suspect has been arrested and charged.
Kris (Kalwinder) Thind, 23, was fatally stabbed outside Cabana Lounge at 1159 Granville St. in the early hours of Jan. 27, 2018, after an altercation between two groups inside the club spilled out to the street.
Police say they believe Thind was trying to intervene when he was stabbed. He was taken to hospital, where he died.
On Tuesday morning, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) announced the B.C. Prosecution Service had approved one count of second-degree murder against 28-year-old New Westminster resident Sukhjit Sidhu on May 28.
He was arrested the same day and remains in custody.
According to police, several people fled the scene right after the incident and before officers arrived, including the suspect.
At the time, a spokesperson with the VPD said the incident appeared to be "an alcohol-fuelled fight that simply got out of hand."
Police had appealed to witnesses for information and video of the incident for years, saying it would be key to solving the case.
In their Tuesday news release, police did not specify other details from their investigation, only that it led to the suspect's arrest.
'Such a fun-loving guy': family remembers
Thind's sister, Sabreena Khosa, said news of Sidhu's arrest has given her family "so much relief."
"We just felt like we can breathe again," she said.
"And we didn't even know we were holding our breath for so long, not knowing what's going to happen, if something's ever going to happen."
Khosa remembered her brother as the one all his friends turned to for support.
"He was just such a fun-loving guy, always singing and dancing and just making everyone laugh. He always had this huge smile on his face."
She said the family had faith in the system and thanked the VPD for its work on the case.
"There were days that we thought maybe nothing was going to happen, and we were just going to live the rest of our lives thinking we'll never know who it was."
"We honestly are hoping that the courts are going to do what they're supposed to be doing, and that justice will be served for Kris."
