34-year-old man was apprehended and taken into custody, Surrey RCMP say
An employee of The Bay at Guildford Town Centre is in hospital with stab wounds, after an altercation with an alleged shoplifter outside the Surrey Mall on Tuesday evening.
Surrey RCMP say the confrontation broke out when the 24-year-old employee followed the suspect out to the parking lot and tried to apprehend him.
During the incident, the employee suffered multiple stab wounds to his arms and upper body.
"Mall security ... arrived within minutes of the altercation," said Sgt. Bill Parmar with Surrey RCMP. "The suspect was held and detained until police arrived."
The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Police say they recovered the knife used in the incident.
The male suspect, 34, was arrested on scene, and charges are pending.
