Police investigating Halloween homicide after body found near Cultus Lake in Chilliwack
26-year-old Jordan Smyth was known to police, death not considered random
Police are investigating the suspicious death of 26-year-old Jordan Smyth on Halloween night, after his body was found in a remote area of Chilliwack, B.C
Smyth, who had ties to the Fraser Valley, was known to police and his death is not thought to be random, according to officials.
"We believe he was targeted for murder," said Sgt. Frank Jang, with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
"His injuries were consistent with foul play."
A member of the public, who was working in the area, found Smyth's body at 7 a.m. PT in an open area near Sleepy Hollow Rd. in the Cultus Lake area of Chilliwack.
"There's still a lot of aspects of this investigation that remain a mystery, including the motive behind the homicide," said Jang.
Jang said investigators are looking into Smyth's past and who he associated with.
"That may shed further light on what happened to him."
Smyth was wearing a black zippered hoodie, grey sweat pants, and light-coloured running shoes when he was found.
Jang said the area where he was discovered is not well-travelled and quite rural.
"But we're hoping that because we believe this happened on Halloween night, there were more people than usual out and about."
Police are asking anyone who saw Smyth on Oct. 31 and any drivers with dashcam video of roadways around Cultus Lake that night to contact IHIT at 1-877-551- IHIT (4448).
