1 person dead, 2 injured after head-on collision on Lougheed Highway

Police say the driver of an Infiniti car was travelling westbound on the highway when the vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming eastbound Dodge pickup truck.

One person is dead and two are in hospital following a head-on collision Tuesday morning on Lougheed Highway.

Ridge Meadows RCMP say they responded at 9:18 a.m. to a collision in the 27200 block of the highway, east of Maple Ridge, B.C.

Police say the driver of an Infiniti car was travelling westbound on the highway when the vehicle crossed the centre line and collided with an oncoming eastbound Dodge pickup truck.

The driver of the Infiniti died at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to hospital and is in critical condition, said a spokesperson with B.C. Emergency Health Services.

The truck's driver was taken to hospital by ambulance and is in serious but stable condition.

Police say they believe it was a head-on collision based on witness accounts and preliminary evidence at the crash scene.

Traffic is expected to remain closed in both directions for the next few hours as officers investigate.
