Pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle on Highway 1 near Abbotsford

Highway 1 westbound was closed near Abbotsford after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning.

Police say a 47-year-old man walking across the highway was struck by a westbound vehicle around 3:30 a.m. PT.

According to a release from the Upper Fraser Valley RCMP detachment, the man  was already dead from his injuries when police arrived.

RCMP, Abbotsford police and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating.

The road was closed between Sumas Way and McCallum Road. A detour was in effect via Sumas Way.

The road was reopened just before 8 a.m. PT, according to DriveBC.
