Man shot dead in Surrey park had long criminal record

Police have identified the victim who died of a gun shot wound in a Surrey park over the weekend as 27-year-old Brendan Aditya Chand.

Past offenses include shooting a man in the back at a busy SkyTrain station and drug trafficking

Police have identified the victim who died of a gunshot wound in a Surrey park over the weekend as 27-year-old Brendan Aditya Chand.

Chand's body was discovered in Bog Park near the 9800 block of 130 Street at approximately 1:50 p.m. PT Sunday afternoon.

Witnesses reported hearing gunshots in the neighbourhood around 10:30 p.m. PT on Saturday.

In 2011 Chand pleaded guilty to shooting Abdul Aleem Khan, 25, in the back as he ran up the stairs of the Royal Oak SkyTrain station during a busy afternoon commute. 

Chand was under a ten year firearms ban at the time of the incident, and was also serving a conditional sentence for drug trafficking.
