Forecasters are warning that snow and rain are set to return to Metro Vancouver this weekend.

The arctic air mass responsible for this week's cold and clear conditions will carry through Thursday before giving way to a system that will bring snow and rain on Friday night.

On Tuesday night, temperatures plunged below zero, prompting an extreme weather alert.

The conditions are expected to stick around for Saturday and Sunday.

The city says it's working on a plan for snow removal.
