Three high school students have died after a single-vehicle crash in Kelowna, B.C.
The crash happened on Gordon Drive in the city's Lower Mission neighbourhood just after midnight, according to the RCMP.
Responding officers found a black Honda Civic sedan with extensive damage and three people inside, according to a statement.
"The 18-year-old female driver, the 18-year old male passenger and the 17-year-old female passenger, all from the Kelowna area, were pronounced deceased at the scene," said Const. Solana Pare in the statement.
The students were all in Grade 12 at Kelowna Secondary School and set to graduate this year, according to School District 23 superintendent Kevin Kaardal.
A school district critical incident response team has been at the high school today to support students and staff with the grieving process and connect them to other supports, Kaardal said.
"Our thoughts and hearts go out to the families that experienced the loss of a child now and so that is where our minds are at this point," he said.
"Commencement will take place and we will find a way to honour those students and support students as they continue to grieve as they also complete their graduation requirements."
Gordon Drive remains closed between Lexington Drive and Cook Road due to the severity of the collision. RCMP on Wednesday were asking drivers to avoid the area.
The BC Coroners Service is also investigating.
