Police are investigating the death of a construction site employee on Vancouver Island.

West Shore RCMP say the man, who was in his mid-20s, died Wednesday of injuries he suffered at the construction site near the 1400-block of Pinehurst Place in Langford, B.C., approximately 15 kilometres west of Victoria via Highway 1.

RCMP and paramedics were called to the scene at about 12:50 p.m. but were unable to save the man, police say in a release.

The B.C. Coroners Service and WorkSafeBC have been advised, police say.

WorkSafeBC said in a statement that it was notified of a serious workplace incident about 30 minutes after first responders were called. The statement said WorkSafeBC officers attended the scene, but it didn't provide any other information.

RCMP say they are not identifying the victim as they work to notify his family.
