Charges have been laid in a fatal shooting nearly one year ago in Langley, B.C., homicide investigators say.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says RCMP officers were called to the 7000 block of 202B Street just after midnight on Aug. 2, 2024, following reports of gunfire.

Two men suffering from gunshot wounds were later located at a local hospital, police said. One of them died from his injuries.

IHIT identified the victim as 41-year-old Dillan Unger of Langley.

Investigators said Friday that the B.C. Prosecution Service has charged Stephen Johnson with second-degree murder in connection with Unger's homicide.

Johnson was also charged with four counts of attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault, one count of using a firearm in the commission of an offence, and one count of reckless discharge of a firearm in connection with the August 2024 incident.

IHIT confirmed that Johnson and Unger knew each other.

Johnson remains in custody.

"Over the past year, investigators have remained committed to advancing this investigation and securing charges in this case," Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi of IHIT said in a statement.
