A missing snowboarder has been found dead at Big White Ski Resort in Kelowna, B.C., according to RCMP.

Police said ski patrol and rescue crews found the man's body on Monday.

"The man's next of kin has been notified and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time," read a statement from RCMP.

The snowboarder, 42, had been reported missing around 5:10 p.m. on Sunday.

He had been boarding with friends but hadn't been seen since 1 p.m., when he was at the Gem Lake chairlift, getting ready for his last run of the day.

RCMP, ski patrol and rescue crews searched for the man until 12:45 a.m., when they called off the search due to bad weather and poor visibility. They found the man's body after restarting the search Monday.

Teams had been searching the backcountry of Big White, where RCMP said the snowpack was "unstable" and had a "considerable avalanche risk."

The snowboarder was experienced and had a season's pass to the resort, according to police.
