An interim report released by the University of B.C. recommends the installation of cameras at the Vancouver campus to
address safety concerns after six sexual assaults last year.

The report says the university will hold public forums and seek community input over the expansion of electronic surveillance at key points including transit hubs.

As part of the process, the university will develop a policy about privacy considerations. Recommendations to improve safety for students, staff and faculty also include the development of a mobile phone app and more lighting.

The community is invited to provide feedback on the recommendations until Feb. 25, via a form on the report website, entitled Improving Campus Safety.

Six sexual assaults took place on the UBC campus between April and October 2013, but the lone male suspect described in each case has not been apprehended.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian male, with dark or olive skin, in his late 20s to early 30s. He is slim in build and is between 5-8 and 6-2.

Anyone with information on the suspect or any of the attacks is asked to contact the RCMP's tipline at 778-290-5291 or 1-877-543-4822.
