An evacuation alert affecting people in 15 homes near Pemberton, B.C., has been lifted now that firefighters have contained a grassfire that was sparked Tuesday.

Late Wednesday, the Lil'wat First Nation said the fire was monitored overnight and brought under control.

The fire was about 95 hectares — almost a square kilometre — in size and out of control at its peak, according to the B.C. Wildfire Service.

The service said more than a dozen of its firefighters were dispatched to help local fire crews suppress the flames.

"We are seeing a few more fires this time of year than we're used to and [this one] is human caused, we suspect, so we're asking people to continue to be vigilant and be careful," said Dorothy Jakobsen, who speaks for the wildfire service's Coastal Fire Centre.
