A fire destroyed three chalets at the Mt Washington Ski resort on Vancouver Island overnight Thursday.

Few details about the fire have been released so far.

An official with the Comox Regional District confirmed that about six years ago Mount Washington property owners failed to pass a referendum to build an emergency services building, including a volunteer fire hall for the community.

The ski hill has struggled to stay open in recent years because of a lack of snow, and recently suspended operations for the rest of this season.
