Mount Washington resort closes because of lack of snow

It's been a bad snow season for local mountains and Mount Washington confirmed Wednesday it will close its ski resort, possibly for the rest of the season.

The Vancouver Island resort is closing for the season until more snow arrives.

Mount Washington, Vancouver Island's main ski resort, has closed for the season and won't reopen until more snow arrives.

The resort has only been open for a few weeks due to a lean snow pack.

Spokesman Brent Curtain says there is still optimism the resort will get enough snow to reopen before the ski season is over.

"What we're going to do is basically see if the snow comes," he said. "Hopefully, it does...We can definitely salvage the season at this point."

The Vancouver Island resort, located near Courtenay, closed at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon.
