While police have still not provided any information about the sudden evacuation and graduation cancellation at Mt. Sentinel Secondary school in B.C.'s South Slocan, the school says it will remain closed on Monday.

A post on the school's website by Shellie Maloff repeats that staff became aware of a serious threat to the safety of students, staff and others on Friday which resulted and the evacuation of the building and the cancellation of a formal grad for 58 students.

"We continue to appreciate your continued patience and support through this difficult and challenging time," said the post.

"We have made the decision to continue with the closure of the school for Monday, June 27 given where we are at in the school year and that provincial exams are now complete coupled with the ongoing police investigation."

'Re-opening school top priority'

Mt. Sentinel says it is working with its own violence threat risk assessment team, trauma response team, the RCMP, Nelson Police and the province's ministry of children and family development to deal with the problem, whatever it is.

"Re-opening the school is our priority and we are hoping that will happen on Tuesday," it said on its website while also asking students and their families to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.

On Saturday, some students pushed on with their own homemade grad celebrations despite the uncertainty and cryptic messages from the school.

The school says it will provide another update on Monday at 5 p.m. PT.
