Pattullo Bridge reopens after three killed in crash
A collision Friday evening left three dead and one person with life-threatening injuries
The Pattullo Bridge between New Westminster and Surrey, B.C., reopened just after noon on Saturday after a deadly crash involving three vehicles the night before.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) told CBC News they are investigating a range of factors that may have contributed to the collision, with speed being one of them.
The crash, which happened around 10 p.m. on Friday on the east end of the bridge, involved two cars and one semi-trailer truck. Police said three people, all South Asian men between the ages of 19 and 20, were killed at the scene, while another person sustained serious, life-threatening injuries.
"At this early stage, the extent of that person's injuries are unknown, but they are expected to survive," said Lindsey Houghton, staff sergeant with the SPS.
Houghton said those four people were all passengers in one of the cars involved.
Houghton said there were no injuries from the other car, and the driver of the semi-trailer truck was also unhurt and remained on scene.
The Provincial Health Services Authority confirmed it responded to the incident with six ambulances.
Paramedics provided emergency medical care to four patients at the scene and one patient was taken to the hospital, the authority said in an email to CBC.
The bridge had been closed in both directions overnight as the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team investigated.
Police are asking witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam footage to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file 2025-12779.
