One person has died after being struck in a motor vehicle collision in Burnaby on Friday night, in the third car accident-related death this week.

Burnaby RCMP say that around 8:50 p.m. on Friday, several vehicles collided on Lougheed Highway between Madison Avenue and Gilmore Avenue.

A pedestrian travelling on the north side of the road was struck by the vehicles and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Two other people involved in the crash were taken to hospital.

Police said while the investigation is in its early stages, they believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

Two other vehicle accidents resulted in deaths this week in Burnaby.

On Thursday, a 75-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run on Marine Way near Boundary Road.

A day later, on Friday afternoon, a collision involving up to eight vehicles at the intersection of Kingsway and Nelson Avenue left one dead and two injured.

Lougheed Highway between Madison and Gilmore was closed for several hours while investigators examined the scene after the pedestrian death on Friday night but has since reopened.

Anyone who witnessed or has dash camera video of the collisions can contact Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services at 604-646-9999.
