Vancouver Police ask public for help identifying alleged one-punch attacker
Victim of "cowardly" one-punch attack left unconscious and bleeding outside downtown Vancouver pub
Vancouver police have release surveillance camera photos of a man they believe is responsible for a one-punch attack that left a 49-year-old Vancouver man with head injuries and brain bleed earlier this year.
The assault took place August 31 shortly after 10 p.m. PT. The victim was smoking and talking with friends outside of Pub 340 at 340 Cambie Street. Police say according to surveillance video the victim and his attacker had no contact until a few words were exchanged just prior to the assault.
The victim was left unconscious and bleeding on the sidewalk, while the attacker walked away.
"This was a cowardly act by someone with no regard for the consequences of his actions," says VPD Constable Brian Montague. "One punch can have a life-altering outcome for the victim, their family, and the attacker."
The attacker is described as Aboriginal, in his 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build, light complexion and several tattoos. He was wearing a black jacket with the word "Headrush" on the back.
The victim of the attack spent three weeks in hospital and many more recovering from his injuries.
Last month police made a similar appeal for information in another one-punch assault that left a Richmond man with permanent brain damage. Police say one-punch or sucker punch attacks are becoming more common.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section at (604) 717-2541 or Crime Stoppers at 1 (800) 222-8477.
