RCMP in a small community in B.C.'s Shuswap Valley have warned about a potential public safety risk posed by an alleged suspect after a 66-year-old woman was found dead at a mobile home park on Wednesday.

Sicamous RCMP say they were called to assist paramedics providing medical assistance to the woman, who was found unresponsive in a driveway early Wednesday.

Jo Ann Jackson of Sicamous died at the scene. A man in the area was arrested and later released.

"We have an individual who was initially arrested for manslaughter in relation to this incident," said Cpl. James Grandy.

"He was put on a series of protective conditions to abide by. Along with those conditions and RCMP resources that I'm not going to speak to... we trust that there will be limited risk to the public."

The suspect cannot be named because he has not been charged.

His police-imposed conditions include not returning to the property at 1707 Hillier Rd. where the woman died.

Grandy said the investigation is in its early stages and that the public does not need to adjust their behaviour.

Sicamous, population 2,000, is around 120 kilometres north of Kelowna.

RCMP are asking for video or dashcam footage from between 1 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on June 19 from Hillier Road to the Trans-Canada Highway.

Anyone with information is asked to contact 1-877-987-8477.

  • An earlier version of this story stated the suspect had been released with court-ordered conditions. In fact, the conditions are police-imposed, not court-ordered.
