Two people have been arrested following the death of a 61-year-old man in Prince George, B.C.

RCMP said they were called to an "assault in progress" at a home on the 2300-block of Victoria Street, near the city's downtown, just after 8 p.m. PT on Monday.

Sgt. Craig Douglass said when police arrived at the residence, they found the 61-year-old dead and arrested two men.

He said the serious crime section has taken over the investigation, which remains in its early stages, and the coroner is also involved in determining the exact cause of death.

Douglass said investigators are "confident that this was a targeted attack and there are no further concerns for public safety."
