Prince George sawmill explosion injures 1
Small fire at Carrier Forest Products mill
One person has been sent to hospital with minor injuries after an explosion at the Carrier Forest Products sawmill in Prince George.
"The initial reports found the explosion was limited to a small area inside the facility," said RCMP Cst. Kristopher Martin, adding that the fire, which broke out just after 4 p.m., was quickly put out.
"All employees are accounted for. We know that one person was transported to the university hospital with minor injuries," he added.
Martin was unable to say what area of the mill the explosion originated in, or what caused the blast. The damage is still being assessed.
The explosion came on the same day that construction began on the new Lakeland Mills sawmill in Prince George, after the original mill was destroyed in an explosion in April 2012 that killed two workers.
Another explosion in January 2012 at the Burns Lake Sawmill also killed two men.
The causes of both explosions have not been released by WorksafeBC, pending possible charges under the Workers Compensation Act.
