9 current and retired RCMP members speak openly about post-tramatic stress disorder in new video

The wife of an RCMP officer with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has released a YouTube video featuring nine former and current officers sharing their experiences.

The video called "You are not alone" is a message of hope aimed at those who might be suffering alone, says advocate Lori Wilson.

"This video was produced in the hopes of reaching new members who may not know the effects of PTSD, those who may be in the initial stages and do not understand what is happening to them or senior members who have been suffering in silence for years," said Wilson in her YouTube post.

It features the unidentified officers in uniform and civilian clothes talking frankly and directly to the camera about their experiences.

"I felt I was dying inside," says one officer.

"My wife told me I was not the man she married anymore," says another.

"I didn't know I had PTSD until my after being urged by a couple of members I worked with that … I needed to go see a psychologist," says one more.

"It took a lot of energy to make that phone call to reach out for help, and I look back upon that as a real turning point."

Wilson has posted several other videos about the condition and its effects on police officers in the past.
