Kamloops RCMP are searching the South Thompson River in the Valleyview area for signs of a boater who went missing after two watercraft collided on Sunday.

According to a release, police were called to the river shores at around 6:30 p.m. PT to find a man believed to be around 30 years old who had disappeared.

He fell into the water after the personal watercraft he was operating collided with another, similar watercraft.

"Preliminary reports suggest that both operators were travelling toward each other on the river, and both [operators] turned the same way in an attempt to avoid each other, causing them to collide with one watercraft going over the other," the release reads.

RCMP boat, air services, and dive teams are all participating in the search.

The operator of the other personal watercraft and people who witnessed the collision are being interviewed by police.
