Recycling pop up for old electronics to be held at Trout Lake
City of Vancouver's Albert Shamess says many people unaware they can return electronics at the recycle depot
If you have unused or broken electronics lying around the house, you can bring them to the Trout Lake Community Centre in Vancouver tomorrow for an electronics recycling drop.
Of course, you could also bring them to any of the 90 recycling depots in the Vancouver area at any time, but Director of Waste Management and Resource Recovery Albert Shamess said many people don't.
"A lot of people don't know that they're recyclable … people really aren't aware, so we decided to raise the profile," he told The Early Edition's Rick Cluff.
Five events were held last year collecting around 1,700 pieces of electronics.
Tomorrow's drop off will be the second of this year, and Shamess said interest has gone up — around 800 different items were collected at the first.
Shamess said people bring computers, blenders, toasters, TV as well as more archaic relics like floppy discs and VHS tapes.
"Anything that's small and electronic. We don't want any large items like kitchen appliances like fridges or stoves, but the smaller items are all accepted," he said.
The drop-off will be held on Saturday, Feb 28 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the parking lot of the Trout Lake Community Centre.
