Revelstoke dog Ollie shot, police seek suspect
Man fled in a black two-door Cheverolet pickup
RCMP in Revelstoke, B.C., are looking for a suspect who shot a dog belonging to a couple who was out picking mushrooms on Saturday afternoon.
The couple were walking along Wap Lake Road around 1 p.m. PT with their three-year-old husky-cross Ollie. As they came over a hill, they saw a man lift his rifle and shoot Ollie, who was walking in front of them.
The couple were stunned, saying the man apparently shot the dog for no reason, and then threw his long gun into his vehicle and took off.
The couple tried chasing the truck, but couldn't catch up. The dog was barking and yelping, so they rushed it to a veterinarian, but it died.
RCMP Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky says police are looking for a Caucasian man in his late 20s or 30s, with short black hair and stubble, wearing dark clothing and a ball cap.
The truck was a clean, black two-door Chevrolet pickup truck from the late 80s or early 90s with a tonneau cover, tinted windows and a distinctive chrome grill.
"A husky-cross dog may look like a wild animal. I've seen the pictures. He seemed like a friendly animal," said Grabinsky.
"If you shot a dog you'd go up and apologize to the owner. However, we know the person got into his vehicle and took off in a rapid manner."
Grabinsky says they just want to talk to the suspect and determine what happened on that logging road.
