Risky Botox temptations to avoid

A CBC News hidden-camera investigation into Botox injections offered by unlicenced practitioners raises serious questions and as Natalie Clancy reports, there are other temptations people looking for the cosmetic treatment should avoid.

The CBC News hidden-camera investigation into spas offering Botox injections by people not licenced to perform such procedures is a cautionary tale.

The perceived cosmetic benefits of Botox injection — and discounts offered on the treatment — can lead consumers to take serious risks, either by using unlicenced practitioners or even by trying to inject Botox themselves.

"It involves experience, and a keen understanding of the anatomy, of the muscular anatomy, in the face, knowing where to place the botox properly to get the affect you are looking for," says Dr. Lee Thompson. "It’s not something that the person who was serving coffee last week can do."

There are other Botox-related precautions to take and temptations to avoid, as the CBC’s Natalie Clancy reports.
