Road rage suspect sought in Abbotsford hit-and-run
Victim was run over after exchanging words or gestures with a man in another car
Police in Abbotsford, B.C., are searching for a suspect after a man was struck by a vehicle following an apparent road rage incident on Sunday evening. The victim's wife and son witnessed the incident, said police.
According to police the incident began as two vehicles were travelling southbound on Riverside Road around 7 p.m. PT.
At some point words or gestures were exchanged between the passenger in a grey Chrysler sedan and those in a red or burgundy vehicle.
Both vehicles stopped on Harris Road just east of the intersection of Gladwin Road, where the suspect got out and approached the passenger-side of the Chrysler
The suspect broke the window and grabbed a cellphone from the passenger's hand. The passenger then got out of the car and was struck by the suspect's vehicle as it fled.
When police arrived they found the victim, aged 38, waiting with his family and suffering from serious injuries. He was taken to hospital.
Const. Ian MacDonald said the victim's family was also traumatized by the incident.
"You can imagine you have a fairly young teenage son who actually sees his father first have his belongings robbed from him, but then is driven over when his son is sitting watching helpless in the car," said MacDonald.
Police are now searching for a non-white male in his 30s, about 5'10" tall, with a medium build.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225, or text 222973 (abbypd) or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
