Run for the Cure to draw thousands, road closures in effect
Nine communities in B.C. hosting runs aimed at raising money for breast cancer research
Thousands of runners will put on pink and run or walk through the streets of Vancouver for the 24th Annual CIBC Run for the Cure.
Organized by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the event raises money for research and education in the treatment of breast cancer but also prevention, diagnosis and care.
There are nine separate "races against the disease" across British Columbia:
Breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer diagnosis in Canadian women, with one in nine women expected to develop the disease during her lifetime.

The five-year relative survival rate for Canadian women diagnosed with breast cancer is 88 per cent; In BC it is 91.8 per cent.
The following road closures are in effect for Vancouver's Run for the Cure, which begins at 9:30 a.m. PT at 88 Pacific Boulevard.
