The Encana Events Centre, the arena that hosts concerts in Dawson Creek, B.C. has banned the use of selfie sticks and drones.

Marketing Manager Brent Hodson said the ban is a proactive move as both items become more popular.

"We haven't had any issues at all. I don't think I've actually seen a selfie stick in our venue now," he told Daybreak North's Russell Bowers.

"People getting up, using the selfie stick, can get in the way of other fans' enjoyment of the events but also there's a lot of people in the venue and if you pull out a stick and start swinging it around, people could get hurt."

He said the venue also hasn't had drones at any events.

"We're just trying to be proactive to make sure the safety and enjoyment of our fans is top of mind."
