Victoria's most famous snake has been caught, over a week after city crews began a mission to capture it.

Since spotting the five foot corn snake in a storm sewer pipe earlier this month, crews had repeatedly climbed underground to try and bring the reptile out safely.

City workers tried to coax it out with traps, food and heat pads.

There's no word yet on how the snake was finally caught, but a victory tweet from the city announced, "It's official, no more snake in the drain."

The city believes the snake is an escaped pet.
