Snowfall expected for parts of B.C.'s South Coast on Monday
Snow could pile up on roadways and in neighbourhoods above 200 metres
Snow may be coming to Metro Vancouver and parts of southern Vancouver Island Monday.
A special weather statement from Environment Canada says modified arctic air will arrive over British Columbia's southern coast as a ridge of high pressure builds on Sunday.
A frontal system is also approaching and is expected to combine with the chilly air on Monday that could result in snow piling up in neighbourhoods and roadways above 200 metres.
Around Howe Sound, where colder air is expected, snow is anticipated to accumulate near sea level.
The statement covers eastern and inland Vancouver Island from the Malahat up to Campbell River.
It also includes the Sunshine Coast and stretches from the Lower Mainland up to Whistler.
The City of Vancouver says it has opened up additional shelter spaces and a warming centre for Saturday and Sunday night because of the colder weather.
The cold front is expected to move out of the region on Tuesday morning.
